In order to receive dental implants, you must have bone in the proper location, width and height. Some patients need grafting to obtain the necessary bone needed to support dental implants. Some do not. Below are questions and answers about this topic.
How much does grafting cost?
The answer is: it depends. It depends on the amount of graft material needed and the time it takes to perform the grafting procedure. For instance, a simple socket graft would cost much less than a complicated graft such as a maxillary sinus lift.
What kind of grafting materials are used?
Sometimes bone is taken from the patient and transplanted. Such techniques such as block grafts taken from the mandibular symphasis or ramus can result in nerve damage in up to 25% of cases. Hence, we rarely use that option.

Once a patient knows what kind of restoration they want (single crown, fixed bridge or removable dentures or bridges) the number and location of the needed implants can be planned. A 3-D scan of the jaws is done to determine if a patient has adequate bone to support the needed implants. With sophisticated software, Dr. Meir Agaki can digitally plan and evaluate as see if grafting is needed.
